If we wish to understand what is really going on in this world at present, we must develop our capacity to distinguish between information and disinformation, between that which is true and that which is false, between reality and illusion. In short, we must learn to be discerning. The purpose of this article is to help us do just that.

We are now living in an extraordinary time of accelerating change which is without precedent in human history. It is a time in which everything is escalating exponentially, including not only the amount of information that we can use to enlighten ourselves, but also the amount of disinformation that is intentionally being used to deceive, mislead, manipulate, and control us for the ultimate purpose of keeping us in the dark.

In acknowledging this simple truth, we need to be very clear about the fact that we are not engaging in delusions of paranoia. What we are currently witnessing is the gradual transformation of our world into an Alice in Wonderland nightmare by a global conspiracy of darkworkers which can no longer be hidden or denied. This global conspiracy, which was previously regarded as a mere theory, has now become a blatant fact of life. Indeed, at this point, the unmistakable evidence is all around us if only we will wake up and open our eyes.

There is an old saying which is quite applicable to our current situation: When your dream turns into a nightmare, that means it's time to wake up. This article has been specifically designed to help us do just that.

The following candidates for the title "the ultimate disinformation program" have already been exposed for what they are and consequently do not require our attention: 1) the disinformation that there are no disinformation programs; 2) the disinformation that there is no conspiracy of darkworkers; 3) the disinformation that there is no UFO cover-up; 4) the disinformation that there is no Supreme Being; 5) the disinformation that Jesus is the only Son of God; 6) the disinformation that Jesus is a fictitious invention; 7) the disinformation that human beings do not have immortal souls; 8) the disinformation that human beings are nothing more than biological organisms who have descended from the apes; 9) the disinformation that the federal government of the United States of America has continued to be legitimate since it was declared bankrupt in 1933, and 10) the disinformation that George W. Bush II was elected President of the United States.

What we are looking for then is a disinformation program of universal import which still enjoys widespread acceptance because it has thus far managed to escape detection.

Let us begin our investigation by examining one particular disinformation program that is relatively easy to trace back to its point of origin after we have exposed it for what it is. This particular example has to do with the way we define the four seasons of the year in terms of our calendar. And as we shall see, this mental set has gradually become so deeply ingrained in our consciousness that most of us have failed to recognize it for the disinformation that it is.

As we all know, the agricultural definitions of the four seasons are as follows: winter is the cold season of dormancy, spring is the warming season of germination, summer is the hot season of growth, and autumn is the cooling season of harvest.

What we shall be examining here are not these agricultural definitions, which are a function of temperature, but rather the astronomical definitions, which use the solstices and equinoxes to define the time frames within which these four seasons occur.

Needless to say, these time frames are relative to and variable with the different geographical regions of our planet. Thus, for example, when it is winter in our Northern Hemisphere, it is summer in our Southern Hemisphere; and when spring germination is happening in our Northern Hemisphere, autumn harvesting is taking place in our Southern Hemisphere.

Furthermore, while the four seasons are relatively distinct in the Temperate Zones of our planet, they become almost indistinguishable in the Torrid Zones near the equator, where the only meaningful distinction is between a dry season that gradually becomes hotter and a rainy season that gradually becomes cooler.

As for the precession of the equinoxes through the twelve signs of the zodiac, which gives rise to the grand astrological cycle of 25,920 years, suffice it to say that we are now in the process of crossing the threshold from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius.

According to our current dictionaries, encyclopedias, and almanacs, the astronomical definitions of the four seasons for the Temperate Zone in the Northern Hemisphere of our planet are as follows: winter begins with the winter solstice around December 21, spring begins with the vernal equinox around March 20, summer begins with the summer solstice around June 21, and autumn begins with the autumnal equinox around September 22. Although these definitions may appear to be perfectly logical and rational at first glance, the fact is they are not.

Conversely, according to our current dictionaries, encyclopedias, and almanacs, the astronomical definitions of the four seasons for the Temperate Zone in the Southern Hemisphere of our planet are as follows: winter begins with the June solstice, spring begins with the September equinox, summer begins with the December solstice, and autumn begins with the March equinox. Suffice it to say that these definitions are equally irrational. For the purpose of this article, however, we shall keep the focus of our attention on the way in which the seasons are defined in the Northern Hemisphere so as to avoid unnecessary confusion.

As we shall now see, all of the foregoing astronomical definitions of the four seasons are not only irrational and illogical, but also fraudulent and misleading. We may even go so far as to say that they constitute the ultimate disinformation program, which has the subtle effect of creating mental disorientation and emotional confusion in all those who are foolish enough to accept them. Thus, for example, they have the potential effect of causing grape farmers to wait too long before harvesting their crops because October has been misdefined as early autumn rather than late autumn.

The epitome of this foolishness is the myth surrounding Groundhog Day, which is celebrated on February 2 in the Northern Hemisphere. According to this misleading myth, if the groundhog sees its shadow when it emerges from hibernation in early February, six more weeks of wintry weather are predicted, the fallacious implication being that the vernal equinox around March 20 marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

That the foregoing astronomical definitions of the four seasons are explicitly irrational and therefore implicitly fraudulent is easily demonstrated by subjective experience as well as by objective analysis.

Let us begin with the subjective point of view by asking these simple questions, which are applicable for all those who live in the Northern Hemisphere of our planet. Is the middle of December subjectively experienced as late autumn or early winter? Is the middle of March subjectively experienced as late winter or early spring? Is the middle of June subjectively experienced as late spring or early summer? Is the middle of September subjectively experienced as late summer or early autumn?

The answers to these simple questions are obvious. Thus, for example, everyone who loves to ski knows that the snow usually begins to accumulate in November about six weeks before the winter solstice in December. And everyone who has grown up in the desert, as I did, knows that the desert wildflowers begin to bloom in February about six weeks before the vernal equinox in March.

The objective reasons for our subjective definitions become unmistakably clear when we undertake a logical analysis of how the four seasons are related to the solstices and equinoxes.

In our Northern Hemisphere, the winter solstice occurs when the sun reaches its southernmost point relative to Planet Earth, thereby producing the shortest day of the year around December 21. Therefore, if we wish to arrive at a rational definition of the time frame for winter, we must recognize the fact that the winter solstice marks its midpoint rather than its beginning. From this it follows that, when viewed objectively, the winter season actually begins around November 6 and ends around February 4.

Similarly, if we wish to arrive at a rational definition of the time frame for spring, we must recognize the fact that the vernal equinox marks its midpoint rather than its beginning, this being the point at which the days and nights are of equal length. From this it follows that, when viewed objectively, the spring season actually begins around February 4 and ends around May 5.

In our Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice occurs when the sun reaches its northernmost point relative to Planet Earth, thereby producing the longest day of the year around June 21. Therefore, if we wish to arrive at a rational definition of the time frame for summer, we must recognize the fact that the summer solstice marks its midpoint rather than its beginning. And from this it follows that, when viewed objectively, the summer season actually begins around May 5 and ends around August 7.

Finally, if we wish to arrive at a rational definition of the time frame for autumn, we must recognize the fact that the autumnal equinox marks its midpoint rather than its beginning, this being the point at which the days and nights are again of equal length. And from this it follows that, when viewed objectively, the autumn season actually begins around August 7 and ends around November 6.

Let it be clearly understood that these rational astronomical definitions of the four seasons are nothing new. On the contrary, they are simply reinstatements of the rational astronomical definitions which were common knowledge in ancient cultures such as the Keltic culture of ancient Britain and the Mayan culture in the Yucatan.

Contrary to the disinformation that has been systematically injected into our history books over the past two thousand years, the Keltic culture of ancient Britain was far more enlightened than the pagan culture of ancient Rome. Thus, for example, the Keltic calendar which was in general use prior to the conquest of Britain by the Roman Empire in the first century A.D. was more accurate and reliable than the Roman calendar which gradually replaced it.

Although the so-called Julian calendar that had been introduced into the Roman culture by Julius Caesar during the first century B.C. was a vast improvement over the grossly defective calendar that the Romans had previously been using, it nevertheless produced an error of one day every 128 years, which resulted in a cumulative error of more than twelve days by the time it was finally replaced with the Gregorian calendar in 1582. And even the Gregorian formula for the intercalation of leap years has subsequently required further refinement.

Thus, by the time that the Roman Empire was finally conquered by an army of Keltic warriors under the inspired leadership of Constantine in 312 A.D., the Julian calendar was already out of alignment by almost three days. Consequently, by the time Constantine made his decision to celebrate Christmas on the winter solstice, the date of the winter solstice had shifted to December 25, and that has remained the date on which Christmas has been celebrated ever since.

It is also worth noting that, contrary to the anti-Keltic disinformation which was subsequently injected into our history books, deliberately misrepresenting Constantine as an illegitimate son of Augustus Caesar Flavius Constantius by the uneducated daughter of a Moesian innkeeper, the truth is that, before she became the Roman Empress Flavia Helena Augusta, Constantine's mother was a British Christian Keltic princess whose father was King Coel of Colchester.

In any case, the important thing to bear in mind here is that the ancient Keltic calendar was based on the rational astronomical definitions which we have clearly spelled out in the foregoing paragraphs. Thus, for example, Samhain is the Keltic name for winter which (when calculated in terms of the Gregorian calendar) begins around November 6. Imbolc is the Keltic name for spring, which (when calculated according to the Gregorian calendar) begins around February 4. Beltane is the Keltic name for summer, which (in terms of the Gregorian calendar) begins around May 5. And Lughnasadh is the Keltic name for autumn, which (according to the Gregorian calendar) begins around August 7.

Now it so happens that the Keltic people of Britain, which includes all those of Welsh, Irish, and Scottish descent, have an ancient tradition that involves celebrating the onset of summer with a Beltane festival which (when calculated in terms of our Gregorian calendar) takes place in early May. As a consequence, it has been virtually impossible to convince them that the summer season begins with the summer solstice around June 21. What has been done instead, therefore, is to shift the Beltane festival ahead a few days to the first day of May and to change its name to May Day. This is only one of many ways in which the Keltic culture of the British people has been gradually erased from our history books by means of a disinformation program that may well be labeled "ethnocide." One can only wonder whether it is a mere coincidence that the word " Mayday" has come to be known as the international distress signal.

In any case, a gradual shift has taken place during the twentieth century from the rational astronomical definitions which characterized our ancient cultures to the irrational astronomical definitions of the four seasons which now characterize our modern dictionaries, encyclopedias, and almanacs.

Thus, for example, by 1951 the Encyclopaedia Britannica was declaring that it is customary to combine the calendar months into seasons in the following manner for the Northern Hemisphere:

Nevertheless, up until 1991, various versions of Webster's Dictionary specified that while these definitions were customary in America, the following definitions were customary in Britain:

By 1992, however, virtually all of our dictionaries, encyclopedias, and almanacs had adopted the irrational astronomical definitions of the four seasons, which have been promulgated annually by the so-called World Almanac ever since it was first published in 1868, at a time when the American people were still reacting to the shock of President Lincoln's assassination following the Civil War, and were beginning to give their sovereign power away.

Careful historical research will reveal that, just as the rational astronomical definitions of the four seasons are nothing new, so the irrational astronomical definitions are also nothing new. Anyone who is familiar with the true history of Keltic Britain will not be at all surprised to learn that these bizarre definitions were first introduced into the British Isles by Saint Augustine the Second, who became the first archbishop of Canterbury shortly after his arrival in 597 A.D., the basic strategy of the Roman Catholic Church being to subvert the British Christian Church by sowing enmity between the Anglo-Saxons and the Kelts.

Let it be known that the only rationale which has ever been offered in defense of these irrational definitions is the obvious fact that annual temperatures generally reach their maximum and minimum after, rather than before, the summer and winter solstices because of the lag time involved in the heating and cooling of land masses and oceans. Does anyone seriously believe that the Keltic people of Britain and the grape farmers around the world are going to be fooled by such nonsense?

Theoretically speaking, there are only two possibilities here. One possibility is that these irrational astronomical definitions are the unintentional mistakes of mindless morons. The other possibility is that they are the intentional miscalculations of disinformation specialists which are deliberately designed to deceive, mislead, disorient, confuse, subjugate, and control humanity.

It is, of course, a well-known fact that national governments engage in disinformation programs which are more politely referred to as propaganda campaigns, Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels being a prime example. In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that international corporations also engage in disinformation programs which are more politely referred to as advertising campaigns, the tobacco industry and the pharmaceutical industry being two prime examples.

Less well-known is the fact that investigative journalists, reporters, and editors in the media are paid by their wealthy employers to engage in disinformation programs which are more politely referred to as news reports. While there are still a few courageous souls dedicated to the task of communicating information honestly and accurately for the purpose of creating an enlightened society, the vast majority have sold out to a conspiracy of darkworkers that does not hesitate to distort and pervert the truth so as to deceive, mislead, and control the public.

Confirmation that this is indeed the case may be found in the courageous confession by John Swinton, former managing editor of The New York Times, whose immortal words deserve to be remembered along with Lincoln's Gettysburg address.

"There is no such thing as an independent press in America at this date of the world's history. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print.

"I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.

"The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press?

"We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks; they pull the strings, and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities, and our lives are all the property of other men.

It only remains to add that, in recent years, those who specialize in distorting or perverting the truth have come to be known as "spin doctors", whose work is euphemistically referred to as "spin control", the implication being that it is nothing more than what a baseball pitcher does when he pitches a baseball for the purpose of attempting to outwit and defeat batters on the opposing team.

Let us now ask ourselves the key question: Why would the disinformation specialists who designed this particular program choose to misdefine the time frames of the four seasons by shifting the solstices and equinoxes from the midpoints to the beginnings of the seasons?

Although there are several different ways of answering this question (see reference 12), the most enlightening answer is: For the same reason that the portraits of our American Presidents have been shifted to the left of center in the asymmetrical design of the new Federal Reserve Notes, which American citizens are required to accept as legal tender even though such currency is intrinsically worthless paper issued by a privately-owned corporation that now functions as owner and master of the bankrupted and subverted United States federal government.

Technically speaking, the bizarre design of our new currency is not really a disinformation program, but simply another kind of disorientation program, the general purpose of which is psychological warfare or mind control.

While it is clear that both of these mind-control programs have been intentionally created for the deliberate purpose of attempting to throw people off balance so as to induce a subliminal state of disorientation and confusion which will make them easier to manipulate, subjugate, and control, it is equally clear that both of these programs constitute revealing reflections of the unbalanced minds who were undoubtedly paid very large sums of money to design such atrocities.

These are but two examples of the proliferating mind-control programs that have been gradually transforming our world into an insane Alice in Wonderland nightmare. A classic example is the ongoing UFO cover-up.

Other possible examples that are deserving of our most careful scrutiny may also be mentioned here. One is the introduction of daylight saving time in the name of saving fuel and electricity. Another is the inflationary depreciation of our currency which caused the United States dollar to lose approximately 95 percent of its value between 1940 and 1999, as a result of which our silver coins were replaced by debased coinage in 1965 while our nation was still in shock over the coup d'etat assassination of President Kennedy. Fluoridation is yet another.

Finally, let us not neglect to mention that one of the most blatant disinformation programs in the world today consists in the fact that fraudulent methods of accounting, which would almost certainly land any businessman in jail were he to attempt to use them, are currently being utilized by the bankrupted United States federal government to make its annual multibillion-dollar deficits appear to be annual multibillion-dollar surpluses for the purpose of deceiving the public into believing that all is well.

It is no exaggeration to say that humanity has lost its moral compass and that what we are now witnessing is a widespread loss of integrity, not only in our people but also in our institutions, including religion, education, business, government, and science in approximately that order. This widespread loss of integrity is currently manifesting as rampant corruption of epidemic proportions, which constitutes the unmistakable sign of a decadent civilization that has now entered its terminal phase. In short, the world as we have known it is dying.

If we wish to understand why our vaunted modern civilization is turning out to be a disastrous failure, we have only to look at the way in which our unscrupulous disinformation specialists have misdefined the word "civilization" in our dictionaries and encyclopedias.

This, for example, is how the word "civilization" is defined in the 1991 edition of Random House Webster's College Dictionary: "1. An advanced state of human society in which a high level of culture, science, and government has been reached. 2. Those people or nations that have reached such a state. 3. Any type of culture, society, etc. of a specific place, time, or group: Greek civilization. 4. The act or process of civilizing or being civilized. 5. Cultural and intellectual refinement. 6. Cities or populated areas in general, as opposed to unpopulated or wilderness areas. 7. Modern comforts and conveniences, as made possible by science and technology."

The essential thing to see here is that the word "civilization" has been incorrectly defined as a synonym for the word "culture" and that the fundamental principle of civilization has been carefully omitted from this list of definitions. To be specific, what our modern dictionaries and encyclopedias neglect to tell us is that civilization consists in a social compact to renounce, prohibit, and penalize all antisocial acts of deception and coercion, from which it follows that, without the abolition of force and fraud, there can be no true civilization.

What we have here is a classic example of the disinformation specialists at work. Lest there be any doubt about this, let us next look at how the word "civilize" is defined: "to bring out of a savage, uneducated, or rude state; make civil; enlighten; refine: Rome civilized the barbarians."

Although we have been systematically brainwashed and indoctrinated by our perverted history books into believing that the emperors of the Roman Empire constituted the epitome of civilization, the truth is exactly the opposite. As the Keltic people of Britain learned only too well some 2000 years ago, the uncivilized emperors of Rome were the true barbarians. Indeed, the crucifixion of Jesus and the executions of many of his apostles and disciples by the uncivilized Roman pagans have been imprinted so indelibly on the collective consciousness of mankind that the ongoing propaganda campaign of the disinformation specialists touting "the glory that was Rome" has never quite been able to convince us.

In any case, the fundamental reason for the disastrous failure of our so-called "enlightened" civilization has now become unmistakably clear. We have succeeded in teaching our children how to earn a living, but we have failed to teach them the fundamental principle that true civilization consists in the renunciation of force and fraud. On the contrary, what our children have been taught, through the controlled media, through the falsification and amoralization of history, and especially through the examples which have been set by our corrupt governments, is that deception and coercion are the name of the game.

To carry this exposé a step further: if we wish to understand why humanity has not become enlightened during the past 2000 years, we have only to look at the way in which the word "enlightenment" has been defined by our unenlightened disinformation specialists to mean "the European philosophical movement of the 17th and 18th centuries, characterized by belief in the power of reason and by innovations in political, religious, and educational doctrine." Needless to say, this intellectual definition doesn't even come close to what Zarathustra the Prophet, Jesus the Christ, and Gautama the Buddha meant by the word "enlightenment". However, the ironic paradox is that John Locke's brilliant exposition of the fundamental principle of civilization in his Second Treatise of Government just happens to constitute the very essence of that European philosophical movement of the 17th and 18th centuries which our history books now refer to in passing as the Enlightenment.

In conclusion, we need to be very clear about the fact that, far from being the ultimate disinformation program, which is precisely what our psychopathic disinformation specialists would like for us to mistakenly conclude, the news that our 3D planet is dying (which began with the publication of Silent Spring by Rachel Carson in 1962 and which is now escalating exponentially with the discovery that over two thousand animal species have become extinct since the first atomic explosion in 1945 and that over twenty million people in Africa are currently dying of AIDS) constitutes a shocking truth that can no longer be denied.

At this point in the unfolding process, it is gradually becoming clear that what we have been witnessing during the recent past is nothing less than the rape and murder of our Mother Earth. This global atrocity, which began in the guise of world "colonization" by European nations, has included the wholesale slaughtering of human beings, the ruthless plundering of natural resources and native cultures, grossly irresponsible experimentation with genetic engineering, the malevolent use of electromagnetic and biological warfare, and the worldwide testing of atomic and hydrogen bombs. This flagrant abuse of our planet has been carried out by a gradually evolving global conspiracy of darkworkers, who have used a fraudulent money system based on usury, taxation, and debt to subvert and bankrupt our sovereign nations for the ultimate purpose of enslaving all of humanity under an authoritarian new world order in the name of peace. And the terrible truth is that we have all been the more or less unwitting participants in this global disaster.

Let us always remember, however, that how we experience the events in our lives is determined, not so much by what happens, as by how we choose to respond to what happens.

Therefore, rather than reacting with fear and guilt to the dying of our world as we have known it, let us instead choose to trust the process and to welcome it in the knowledge that the old world has to die before a new world can be born. And rather than reacting with anger and grievance to these proliferating mind-control programs and the epidemic of corruption which they signify, let us instead choose to welcome them as radical tests of our discernment, which imply that we are now in the midst of what can best be understood as our final examination prior to graduation. In any case, let us wake up to the fact that, whether we like it or not, the degree to which we have unwittingly given our power away by accepting such disinformation and disorientation constitutes an accurate measure of the extent to which we have been spiritually asleep and mentally manipulated.

Like two trains passing one another on parallel tracks as they move in opposite directions, what we are witnessing at present is the simultaneous unfolding of two different scenarios which appear to be opposites but which are actually complements. Thus, even as we experience the accelerating corruption and disintegration of our decadent civilization, we are also experiencing the simultaneous emergence of a whole new world of enlightened consciousness that is now in the process of being born.

But whatever is to be our fate, it is now overdue. After analysing the eradication of millions of ancient species, scientists have found that a mass extinction is due any moment now. Their research has shown that every 62 million years - plus or minus 3m years - creatures are wiped from the planet's surface in massive numbers. And given that the last great extinction occurred 65m years ago, when dinosaurs and thousands of other creatures abruptly disappeared, the study suggests humanity faces a fairly pressing danger. Even worse, scientists have no idea about its source. 'There is no doubting the existence of this cycle of mass extinctions every 62m years. It is very, very clear from analysis of fossil records,' said Professor James Kirchner, of the University of California, Berkeley. 'Unfortunately, we are all completely baffled about the cause.' The report, published in the current issue of Nature, was carried out by Professor Richard Muller and Robert Rohde also from the Berkeley campus. They studied the disappearances of thousands of different marine species (whose fossils are better preserved than terrestrial species) over the past 500m years. Their results were completely unexpected. It was known that mass extinctions have occurred in the past. During the Permian extinction, 250m years ago, more than 70 per cent of all species were wiped out, for example. But most research suggested that these were linked to asteroid collisions and other random events. But Muller and Rohde found that, far from being unpredictable, mass extinctions occur every 62m years, a pattern that is 'striking and compelling', according to Kirchner. But what is responsible? Here, researchers ran into problems. They considered the passage of the solar system through gas clouds that permeate the galaxy. These clouds could trigger climatic mayhem. However, there is no known mechanism to explain why the passage might occur only every 62m years. Alternatively, the Sun may possess an undiscovered companion star. It could approach the Sun every 62m years, dislodging comets from the outer solar system and propelling them towards Earth. Such a companion star has never been observed, however, and in any case such a lengthy orbit would be unstable, Muller says. Or perhaps some internal geophysical cycle triggers massive volcanic activity every 62m years, Muller and Rohde wondered. Plumes from these would surround the planet and lead to a devastating drop in temperature that would freeze most creatures to death. Unfortunately, scientists know of no such geological cycle. 'We have tried everything we can think of to find an explanation for these weird cycles of biodiversity and extinction,' Muller said. 'So far we have failed. And, yes, we are due one soon, but I would not panic yet.'

(The tactics of intimidation that were employed by Saint Augustine the Second in an unsuccessful effort to subjugate the British Christian Church took the form of an arrogant ultimatum, which he delivered to a Synod of British bishops in 602 A.D. and which may be paraphrased as follows: "I have been granted authority over you by Pope Gregory. The Roman Catholic Church is older than the British Christian Church; our Roman calendar is superior to your Keltic calendar; and our calculations are therefore more accurate than yours regarding the seasons in general and Easter in particular. If you will agree to celebrate Easter on the proper date, to perform the rite of baptism in the proper way, and to join with us in preaching to the English nation of Anglo-Saxons using these proper procedures, then we will agree to tolerate all of your other strange customs which are contrary to our own." Knowing that none of these assertions were true and that the first Christian bishop of Rome had in fact been the Keltic son of a British king who had been personally trained by the Arch Druid Joseph of Arimathea at the Essene-Druid Mystery School in Glastonbury, the British bishops respectfully declined this insidious offer because they realized that to accept it would actually mean placing themselves in submissive obedience to the Roman pope. Enraged by their refusal to submit to his authority, Saint Augustine the Second then cursed the British bishops with the following prophetic death-threat: "Since you will not have peace with your brethren, you will have war with your enemies; and if you will not preach the way of life to the English nation, you will suffer at their hands the vengeance of death."
